This is a super hot item this season and I would love to have one just like it. Fortunately, there’s a pattern available. Yay! I’m going to have to order the yarn right away if I’m going to get any wear out of it this season. I live in the southern part of the United States so this could possibly be my “winter coat”. Must. Knit. Faster.
The project is made in 100% easy care acrylic in 27 different gorgeous colorways. Universal Yarns Major is listed as bulky size 5 weight on Ravelry, but I think it’s just because it indicates that the yarn is brushed. This means that it’s slightly fuzzy. When measuring fuzzy yarns, they are measured to include the “halo”. I think the yarn itself will actually feel smaller than bulky and more like an aran which is in the size 4 range.
After reviewing all the delicious colors, I really like the Verdant which is the green colorway. Of course, the Bluebell colorway will go with denim perfectly. I’m torn. Maybe both and I can give one as a gift! Or, not. 🙂
So, let’s take a look at the pattern. This project is worked in two rectangles with only the slightest amount of shaping at the top for the neck. Once the two rectangles are complete, the shoulders will be seamed and then you will pick up stitches for the neck to finish up the cowl.
The lace pattern repeat for the body of the poncho, although very easy, is actually a bit long, with 16 full rows to repeat. You may find that a row counter would come in handy to keep track.
I’m not really a huge fan of this much fabric around my neck, so I may turn it into a funnel neck or perhaps just a short rib trim. Again, never fear to make a project your own. That is the beauty of making your own garments. You can tweak them the way you want them. I don’t have to keep the rolled cowl. I can absolutely minimize it to suit my own taste.
