Free Knit Pattern: Shadow Cable Baby Blanket

Free Knit Pattern: Shadow Cable Baby Blanket

It’s only fitting that I should start off with my first pattern editorial at Make It Knit with my all-time favorite cable stitch pattern. It’s just gorgeous… and squishy! This project is perfectly suitable for a girl or boy and is so cozy in soft, easy care Bernat Baby Blanket yarn.

Baby Blanket yarn is a super bulky yarn in 100% polyester so you will always know that your cables are going to stand up and be noticed for years to come. You’ll need less than 600 yards. Yes, indeed, less than 600 yards and 8mm needles. You’ll have this project finished in no time at all.

The blanket starts off with seed stitch at the bottom and continues with seed stitch up the sides and across the top to help keep from curling. The cabling is a simple 4-stitch cable. You’ll simply alternate full rows of right-leaning cables with full rows of left-leaning cables. Don’t let the all-over appearance fool you. Just take it one cable crossing at a time. It’s a lot easier than it appears.

If you find that you love this stitch pattern as much as I do, duplicate it in other projects. The stitch multiple on this one (including the seed stitch border) is 8, plus 8. The stitch pattern alone is a multiple of 8.
